| LSM2104 Essentials Bioinformatics and Biocomputing is a core module offered to undergraduate students in Life Sciences program at National University of Singapore. This module serves as an introductory module that cover: biological databases and bioinformatics software, sequence comparison algorithms and tools, sequence analysis and molecular phylogenetics, biomolecular 3D structure and modeling. Both the theorical concepts and practical applications are highlighted through lectures, online webcasting, student mini-projects, student presentations, continual assessments, and hands-on practicals. This module is a pre-requisite to the module LSM3241 Bioinformatics and Biocomputing. |

LSM3241 Bioinformatics and Biocomputing is an elective module offered to undergraduate students in Life Sciences program at National University of Singapore. Students have to pass the LSM2104 Essentials Bioinformatics and Biocomputing to read this module. Advanced bioinformatics are covered in this module and more emphasize is put on the hands-on application of concepts. Student projects including setting up webservers from scratch using BioSlax Live CD, collection of pathogens sequence data, processing and organization of collected data, sequence analysis and immunoinformatics study, and creation of specialized databases. In addition, this module also introduces problem-based learning (PBL) learning method, with the aim of training students to be an independent researcher who are able to acquire, process, and learn necessary information to solve a real-life problem. These skill sets are necessary with the rapid growth of information and knowledge, especially in the field of bioinformatics. |

| Bioinformatics is integrated as a component in this module, whereby graduate students are introduced on the use and application of bioinformatics resources and tools in cell biology research. | ||

| This course offers a 2-year part-time training programme leading to a M.Sc. The course is designed for students who have relevant scientific and technical background to upgrade themselves and stay relevant to the 4th pillar of the Singapore economy - Biomedical Sciences. The curriculum will provide them with a skill-set for the creation of excellent, well-validated methods for solving problems in the domain of bioinformatics and related fields that will emerge as a consequence of Singapore’s drive in Biomedical Sciences research. The curriculum will cover biology; significant coursework in algorithms; biostatistics, probability; data analysis and data mining; a substantial number of computer related skills, information technology, and seminars. | ||
| PhD (Bioinformatics) | The PhD programme is targeted towards providing multi-disciplinary training in areas that fall within the research focus of BII. The students will be jointly supervised by the BII scientists, in collaboration with colleagues in its sister research institutes and/or academics in the following universities: National University of Singapore (NUS); Nanyang Technological University (NTU); Imperial College London, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; Karolinska Institutet, Sweden; and University of Dundee, Scotland. | BII |
